Drilling Project Details
This was a significant Geotech project, requiring multiple drill rigs and crews, carrying out HQtt core drilling operations.
Damage occurred as a result of a massive rain event, this left a swathe of damage to the road network, infrastructure and private property along the Queen Charlotte Drive, Kenepuru Road, and local areas surrounding.
We were engaged to provide several Geotech drill rigs and crews to assist Geotech engineers, multiple holes drilled using core drilling methods through dropouts, under slides and large landslides.
Drilling Project Challenges
Remote location.
Impassable roads with limited access.
Barges were required from Picton and Havelock to transport drilling rigs and crews to sites.
Drilling Equipment Used
Tracked MP300 Drilling Rig.
Project Partners
Had the pleasure of working with some of the locals who were resourceful, resilient and cheerful. All living in general isolation in the Sounds.

Geotechnical Drilling – Kawarau Gorge
Two geotechnical bores of over 50 metres were required. Location was particularly tricky, with one site being 80 metres above the road, while the other was adjacent to the very busy Kawarau Gorge Road.
