Geotechnical Drilling – Ferrymead
URS, Geotech, and Christchurch City Council
Drilling Project Brief
PQ and HQ core recovery required for a Mass Movement study on a difficult access site in the Bray/Quarry Road area in Ferrymead.
Access gained with the use of Helipros AS355 helicopter. We placed two rigs on site, QM750, and Hydro200 to carry out the drilling and installation of Inclinometers and Piezometers in completed boreholes. The mid part of the site was extremely steep, where we built a platform to land our small Hydro 200 rig was set up to drill multi holes from.
Drilling Project Challenges
Very steep workface in an urban environment.
Extremely limited access.
Management of helicopter operating over a road (traffic management policy).
Project completed successfully.
